Welcome
It is so wonderful to have you visit our website. Hopefully, it will give you a real insight into who we are as a school family and more importantly, what our school is all about.
We converted from being a Voluntary Aided school to becoming a Catholic Academy in September 2020. St Antony’s is now fully part of the Our Lady of Grace Academy Trust in Newham, East London- which comprises of seven excellent Catholic Primary Schools. Our school was founded in 1862 by Ursuline Nuns from Belgium who worked closely with the Franciscan Order already established in Stratford, to found both St Antony’s Catholic Primary and St Angel’s Ursuline Secondary. The aim from the outset, was to provide sound and forward thinking Catholic education for the children of the local community in service to the local parishioners and the wider community then. Today, St Antony’s has continued in its commitment and service to the St Antony of Padua Faith Community and the wider borough of Newham and has done so for the last 163 years to date.
We pride ourselves in being a warm, welcoming, diverse and inclusive school- sharing faith, love, understanding and respect among ourselves, across our local parish community and the wider multi-cultural community that we serve. The aim of the Leadership Team is to create an environment in which everyone - children, staff and parents - may grow in their faith and love of God, developing respect and an appreciation for themselves along with an awareness of their own and the needs, talents and gifts of others. One of the school’s strengths is our close and collaborative relationship with the Church Parish Community and the Diocese of Brentwood. Our children, parents and staff actively engage in our faith community programmes and events and the parish community reciprocates and works in partnership with our school family in terms of preparation for and participation in our weekly Masses, preparation for the Sacraments and by extension working together on mutually beneficial initiatives such as the Living Wage, the East London Local Community Organisation (TELCO) and CITIZEN’s UK –all of which have great significance for our families and are transformational for our children, parents, staff and the wider community.
Our school’s Mission Statement promotes that ‘We follow Jesus and try to be like Him’ in how we relate to one another on a daily basis. Our CMAT, Governing Body, SLT, Staff and Parents, prioritise the wellbeing, personal development and daily learning experience of all the children at our school-giving each, real opportunities for growing in faith, confidence, competence and self- esteem while fostering rich and meaningful celebration of our diversity.
Our curriculum is broad and balanced and aims to build on children’s prior learning progressively over time –continually raising standards. Our SLT, teachers and support staff provide quality first hand learning experiences, allowing our children to develop their inter-personal skills through positive and productive interaction with staff and peers daily. We build resilience and encourage our children to be creative and critical thinkers. We nurture our children to become independent learners by having faith in God, themselves, their ability strive and reach levels beyond their imagination-fostering an infinite hunger and curiosity for learning (especially from their mistakes) –leading to achieving to their highest individual potential and beyond.
